Reflexology

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?

Reflexology is a theraputic massage for the feet based on the premise that there are reflex points on the feet and hands that are linked to all parts of the body.

In short, Reflexology uses the feet as a map or mirror of the whole body and by applying pressure to and manipulating certain reflexes of the feet, the whole body can be brought back into balance. Working these reflexes combined with the deep relaxation induced by this treatment, helps to bring about a powerful healing effect on the physical and the non physical.

The whole body benefits from this wonderful massage of pressure points on the feet and legs using soothing and nourishing oils and creams.

WHAT AILMENTS CAN BE TREATED WITH REFLEXOLOGY:

Stress, tension and associated conditions; insomnia, IBS and other digestive disorders, headaches, fatigue.

Muscular/skeletal problems; Neck and shoulder pain, back pain, joint pain such as arthritis

Hormone imbalance; irregular and painful periods, pre-menstrual symptoms, maintaining a healthy pregnancy and preparing for birth, menopause associated problems.

Cancer (with GP referral)

WHAT HAPPENS IN A REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT?

A treatment generally lasts about 45mins to 1 hour although a longer one can be requested. A case history is taken to determine the best approach to your treatment which includes medical history, current lifestyle and health. After that it’s lie back and relax! The treatment itself is usually relaxing and consists of a variety of manipulating techniques and pressure on reflex points of the feet and ankles by the practitioners thumbs and fingertips. Soothing oils are used to massage the feet and ankles usually inducing a deep relaxation. Some points on the feet may produce a strange sensation or even tenderness but will never be excessively painful.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Every person’s response to reflexogogy is different but a few generalisations can be made… A feeling of calm and wellbeing are usually felt immediately following the treatment with a deep sense of relaxation. It may be advisable to take a while to yourself following the treatment as you may feel light and floaty, need to sleep or even a bit ‘spaced’, so it may be advisable to have nothing major planned immediately afterwards. As the treatment gently brings the body back into balance so increased urination and elimination of toxins from the body will be experienced. People experience this in different ways like the need to sleep, more frequent urination, elimination of toxins and in some cases a temporary worsening of original symptoms, usually referred to as a healing crisis which will pass within 48hrs.
